Soccer: Noblesville girls handily beat two opponents, Southeastern & Guerin Catholic have great weeks

The Noblesville and Sheridan girls soccer teams both competed at the Paul Loggan Foundation Invitational last weekend at North Central.

The Millers easily won two games, first beating the host Panthers 5-0 last Friday. Five different players scored one goal: Sydney Elliott, Delaney Stone, Kadence Flick, Eva Montgomery (penalty kick) and Anna Reynolds.

Noblesville followed that up with an 8-0 win over Plainfield the next day (last Saturday). Meredith Tippner scored three goals, followed by Caylee Cunningham with two. Atley Pittman (PK), Montgomery and Flick all scored one.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks tied with Lafayette Central Catholic 0-0 in their first game last Friday. Goalkeeper Makenzy Terry made five saves. Sheridan then dropped a 5-0 game to Heritage Christian the next day.

Hamilton Southeastern’s girls team won two easy games this past weekend.

Last Friday night, the Royals defeated Leo 3-0 in a game between the Class 3A No. 1 team (Southeastern) and the 2A No. 1 team (Leo). The Royals scored in the first half; Cole Lance put in an assist from Riley Boyd. In the second half, Ayla Conn scored off a Sloane May assist, then Boyd made the third goal, with Lance assisting.

Southeastern took care of Lafayette Jefferson 9-0 last Saturday, with seven different players scoring goals. May got the first score, putting in a through ball from Boyd. Kate Noel got the second goal, then May and Boyd teamed up another goal and assist. Boyd scored the fourth goal off a Noel assist, Alyssa Damson scored from Ava Bellaver, Gracie Pyle added another goal and Izzy Kistler made the seventh goal, from Addison McClain.

Pyle added a second-half goal with Abby Straus assisting, then McClain finished the scoring off a Damson assist. Addy Ash and Marissa Reinhard split the goalkeeping duties.

Carmel’s girls team participated in the Zionsville Lady Eagles Invitational last weekend.

In their first game last Friday, the Greyhounds beat Archbishop Hogan (Ohio) 5-0 at Murray Stadium. Carmel scored two goals in the 11th and 12th minutes: Adalyn Cameron put in a through ball from Megan Hamm, then Olivia Cebalo scored unassisted. The halftime score was 2-0.

Cebalo began the second half with another unassisted goal, then assisted Hamm for the Greyhounds’ fourth goal. Addie Smith completed the scoring, with Rylie Wilpolt making the assist.

Carmel played Notre Dame Academy (Ohio), ranked No. 6 in the country by MaxPreps last Saturday, and came away with a 2-2 tie. Olivia Joyce put the Greyhounds on the board with a goal, then Notre Dame scored twice to put Carmel behind 2-1 at halftime. With 18 minutes to play in the second half, Cebalo tied up the game. Cameron made the assist.

Hamilton Southeastern’s boys team beat Brebeuf Jesuit 2-1 last Saturday.

The Royals scored both of their goals in the second half. Blake Braden got the first goal off a back post pass by Owen Wilkins. Rex Randy added the second goal, with Drew McDonald making the assist.

Guerin Catholic won both games of a Circle City Conference girls-boys doubleheader last Saturday at the Eagles Nest.

The Golden Eagles girls beat the Trojans in penalty kicks 5-4 after the teams played to a 1-1 tie in regulation. Annabel Wright scored Guerin Catholic’s goal, then was one of the players to step up and make a PK. Also making kicks were Maureen Johns, Mia Gatz, Annie DeBone and Olivia Eaton.

The Golden Eagles boys beat Chatard 6-1. GC’s Christian Sosa scored the only goal of the first half. The Trojans tied it up early in the second half, but the Golden Eagles went on a run of five straight goals after that. Carson Prather made the go-ahead score, Jacob Hein hit a PK, then Sosa put in a goal off a Stephen Alvarez corner kick. Christian Zermeno scored the last two goals.

Guerin Catholic coach Jim Alvarez said the game boiled down to the fact that “scoring goals is a habit.”

“It became much more easy for us instead of pressing so hard,” said Alvarez.
