Cross country: Noblesville boys & girls sweep Rick Weinheimer Invitational

The Noblesville cross country teams scored a sweep at the Rick Weinheimer Invitational last Saturday at Columbus North.

The Millers girls team dominated its race, scoring 44 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Avon’s 105 points. Four Noblesville runners landed in the top 10, led by Riley Flynn, who took fourth in a time of 19:00.9. Also reaching the top 10 were Ansley Applegate (seventh), Kate Mumaw (eighth) and Kennedy Applegate (10th).

The Millers boys team won with 64 points, nicely ahead of Floyd Central’s 88 points. Noblesville had five finishers in the top 16, led by Jack Strong’s eighth-place result. Strong clocked in at 15:46.4.

The Westfield girls team and the Fishers boys team both finished as runners-up in the HomeTown Savings Bank Invitational last Saturday at Terre Haute’s LaVern Gibson Championship Course.

The Tigers totaled 61 points, not too far behind first-place Zionsville, which scored 47 points. Fishers had the top two runners: Sam Quagliaroli won his race in 15:29.3, followed by Matthew Kim, who finished in 15:50.8.

The Shamrocks scored 65 points, behind only first-place Valparaiso’s 37 points. Three Westfield runners reached the top 10: Liz Smith took third, Liv Lozier was fifth and Maggie Naas was 10th.

Carmel, Guerin Catholic and the Westfield boys all competed last Saturday at the Brownsburg Invitational.

The Greyhounds girls team won its race, totaling 54 points. Carmel had two runners finish in the top 10: Freshman Annabel Pollert placed fourth, while Olivia Mundt took seventh. Guerin Catholic was fifth as a team by scoring 174 points, with Bailey Freese placing 10th.

The host Bulldogs won the boys race with 51 points, followed by the Greyhounds, who were runners-up with 68 points. The Shamrocks placed ninth with 235 points, followed by the Golden Eagles in 10th with 254 points.

Jonah Kaul was Carmel’s top runner, placing 11th. Jack Loiselle paced Westfield with a 28th-place finish, and Luke Moster was 31st for Guerin Catholic.
