On Tuesday, April 14, the Sheridan Education Foundation, Inc. (SEFI) played host to a special celebratory dinner to recognize the contributions that the student board members have made. The evening specifically highlighted senior leaders Emily Will and Brianna Duke.

Both Will and Duke joined the board in November 2023 through the A Chance To Serve (ACTS) program. ACTS is designed for freshman students across Hamilton County to come together and get the chance to serve in a local organization. This program promotes already exceptional students and gets them involved in their communities.

Will and Duke joined SEFI when the board was still relatively young, as it had only begun in August of that year. Since then, they have paved the way for an important role that students have played in the organization.

Student members contribute ideas, promote events, and serve as leaders and mentors to other Sheridan students. In addition to Will and Duke, student board members include Kameron Alexander, Jordan Byrne, John Crowder, Amiyah Doss, Marah Fausset, Brielle Garner, Henry Hewitt, and Sadie Timme. All of these young adults have supported the Foundation’s ongoing efforts, which is to help and serve Sheridan Community Schools (SCS) teachers and faculty.

Since January 2024, SEFI has contributed more than $54,000 to SCS classrooms. These contributions support all grade levels, from Kindergarten to seniors, and help meet a wide range of student needs. The celebratory dinner helped to highlight the leadership and service that the SEFI and its student members have provided.

“They have been a significant help to us,” Sharon Brimberry said. “And they have provided valuable input into our organization. They will most definitely continue to make a positive impact on their school community and those around them.”
