Dear Editor:
The great mausoleum of music, the Carmel Palladium, announced its 70 performing acts for the 2026-27 season.
Among the recognizable stars are:
- Dionne Warwick, 85,
- Art Garfunkel, 81,
- Gladys Knight, 82;
- Mickey Dolenz, 81;
- Harry Connick, Jr., 58;
- John Malkovich, 72, and
- Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, 73.
The remaining 63 acts feature either has-been or never-was persons, groups, or non-descripts.
The Center for the Performing Arts building still has a $50 million payoff on bonds issued in 2005. Average ticket sales over the last five years have been $3 million.
But the show must go on – aided by walkers and Rollators.

Carmel

Have never been to any events there. Do not plan too.
Don’t forget Bernadette Peters, Alan Cumming, Itzhak Perlman, Victoria Clark, Ben Folds, Amy Sedaris, and Leslie Odom, Jr., as well as a bunch of crowd-pleasing cover bands and classic acts/events, like the Navy Band and screening White Christmas.
I’m really excited for the season. It’s especially nice to be able to see these acts so close to home and for an affordable price (without having to splurge for airfare and a hotel in NYC, like I did the last time I saw Bernadette Peters live, or in Philly, like the last time I went to see Ben Folds). My out-of-town visitors really enjoy Palladium events (and it’s a great excuse to invite people to visit!).
If you haven’t heard of these acts, Mr. Shaffer, I would highly encourage you to go and enjoy them!
