Beginning with the May 2027 Primary Election, voters will cast their ballots at vote centers rather than precinct-based polling locations. This means registered voters can vote at any vote center in the county rather than at once particular location.
The debate over vote centers is not new, and 72 of Indiana’s 92 counties already use them.
Right now, the plan is to have 57 vote centers in 2027 rather than the 102 polling places in use this fall for the November general election. State regulations would require only 27 vote centers based on the county’s population.
The overall reduction in poll workers means nearly $17,000 in savings. Additionally, many schools will now be used as vote centers, which will lead to $20,000 in cost savings because of fewer rental fees paid to non-governmental sites.

** Indicates seven locations that will have 10 voting machines (instead of eight) with the anticipation that since they are used as early voting locations that there will be more voters voting at those locations on Election Day.
A public hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the Commissioners’ Courtroom at the Hamilton County Government and Judicial Center in Noblesville.
A public test of the voting machines will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in preparation for the 2026 General Election.
