Dear Editor:
My husband and I served Sheridan Community Schools in various capacities for over 80 combined years.
I was a high school business and then technology instructor, class sponsor, student council sponsor, cheerleading sponsor, and Blackhawk supporter during my 41 years.
My husband was an elementary and middle school teacher, elementary and middle school administrator, and coach during his 39 years with the school system. He additionally served as an evening supervisor and school board member following his retirement.
To say we are dedicated to Sheridan Community Schools is an understatement. We had never heard of Sheridan until our employment here, and it became the best find of our lives. We continue to serve as volunteers, most recently as president and founding members of the Sheridan Education Foundation, Inc.
We had opportunities to move to other school districts during the years we served SCS but did not leave. It is an indescribable experience to be a member of the Sheridan Community Schools. Sheridan is small enough for teachers to actually get to know their students and their families. However, it is large enough to offer great opportunities and benefits to the students.
We know this firsthand since our son and daughter are Sheridan High School graduates and were very successful in college and pursing their careers. We are also proud to have two grandchildren choose to attend SCS. They made the choice to attend Sheridan Community Schools due to small class sizes, being able to be with friends in classes and at lunch, caring teachers, and all the great opportunities SCS offered them.
The support of the referendum these last few years has allowed Sheridan Community Schools to attract and keep outstanding educators. We do not want to lose this ability to keep and attract qualified educators. We have lived in the SCS school district for over 50 years and know the impact that this referendum will have on our students and educators.
That is why we are asking you to support the referendum with a “YES” vote on Nov. 7. Do it for your children, your grandchildren, your neighbors, and all the youth of our community.
Keep Sheridan Community Schools one of the best kept secrets in Hamilton County because our youth deserves it!
