Noblesville Schools reduces teacher turnover by 50%, announces 93% teacher retention rate

Noblesville Schools recently announced that the district has reduced the teacher turnover rate by 50 percent over the last five years, bringing the overall teacher retention rate to more than 93 percent. The national average for teacher retention is 78 percent.

Dr. Heather Hendrich, Assistant Superintendent of HR and Safety, presented the findings to the school board as part of a strategic plan update on exceptional staffing.

“Quality teachers are the number one factor in student learning so being able to increase teacher retention is a strong priority for us,” Hendrich said.

The district attributes the significant increase to several factors including:

• Competitive salaries funded through referendum dollars
• Professional learning time on late start Wednesdays and teacher learning days
• Appropriate class sizes/workloads
• New teacher mentoring program
• Employee mental health and wellness support
• Regular employee check-ins to ensure staff feel valued and supported

“High retention isn’t an accident,” Hendrich said. “It’s a direct reflection of the supportive, innovative and collaborative community our staff builds together. We are immensely proud of the educators who make Noblesville Schools exceptional.”
