Girls lacrosse: Noblesville cruises past Penn, Carmel beats Southeastern, but Royals rebound

The Noblesville girls lacrosse team beat Penn 16-9 last Saturday in a home game.

Nataley Blackburn and Emma Hammond both scored four goals for the Millers, followed by Lydia Dumas with three. Molly Adams and Kaelyn Seyfried both put in two goals, and Chloe Barnett scored one. Marisha Woehler dished out four assists, with two for Adams and one each for Blackburn and Hammond.

Noblesville totaled 20 ground balls; Blackburn led that category with four. The Millers had 11 forced turnovers, with Victoria Cook making three of them. Lauren Fischer had six saves as goalkeeper.

The Millers are 8-5 for the season (their other Saturday game against Castle was canceled). Noblesville next plays Friday at Brebeuf Jesuit.

Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern played each other last Thursday at the Royals’ field, with the Greyhounds winning 17-7.

Senior Tori Tomalia scored five goals and handed out three assists, also getting six draw controls in the game. Sophomore Sophie Mock led the goal-scoring with six, and also made an assist.

Two more sophomores had solid games. Avery Goehl had five draw controls and picked up two ground balls, in addition to scoring two goals, and Breckin Hare put in two goals and dished out an assist. Seniors Anna Dumke and AnnMarie McGill both had one goal, with Dumke collecting five ground balls.

Sarah Gastineau led Southeastern’s scoring with five goals, followed by one each for Reese Bradley and Samantha Kim. Brooke Daugherty and Ellie Nawa each handed out one assist; Nawa also had seven draw controls and was dominant on ground balls with eight. Sydney Schena made two forced turnovers. Goalkeeper Kara Jaynes had 17 saves.

Carmel played a Friday night game at Kentucky Country Day School, and fell to the Bearcats 12-6.

Mock and Tomalia both scored two goals, with Dumke and Hare each scoring one goal and making one assist. Goehl also had an assist. Tomalia had four ground balls and three draw controls, while Mock picked up two ground balls.

The Greyhounds are 10-2 and played at Cathedral on Tuesday; results from that game will appear in a later edition. Carmel hosts Penn on Friday.

Southeastern rebounded from its Thursday loss to beat Evansville Memorial 18-3. The Royals had eight different players score at least one goal, starting with Jessie Lyons’ four goals. Olivia Bradley, Nawa and Sidney Sloan each put in three goals, while Gastineau added two. Reese Bradley, Reagan Janes and Evelyn Schenck all had one goal.

Reese Bradley dished out three assists, with Daugherty handing out two. Olivia Bradley, Edie Fisher, Emma Reichert, Schenck and Sloan all had one assist. Sloan collected three ground balls and Nawa had 10 draw controls.

The Royals are 10-2; their scheduled game with Evansville North last Saturday was canceled. Southeastern will play two games in Ohio this Saturday, taking on Loveland at noon and Kings Mill at 5 p.m.
