Girls lacrosse: Carmel, GC to play for state championship again

The stage is once again set for a Carmel-Guerin Catholic girls lacrosse state championship game.

The Greyhounds and the Golden Eagles will meet for a fourth consecutive year in the Indiana Girls Lacrosse Class 2A state championship game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Materials Field in Noblesville. Both schools easily won semi-state games this week: Carmel beat Bishop Chatard 17-8 on Tuesday, while Guerin Catholic beat Hamilton Southeastern 14-6 on Wednesday.

The Greyhounds led 6-2 after one quarter and 9-5 at halftime. The Trojans were still within 11-8 after three quarters, but Carmel powered through the fourth quarter by scoring six goals.

Sophie Mock scored six goals, while Elle Tomalia put in five goals. Breckin Hare had four goals, with Avery Goehl and Ellie Espey each scoring one.

Mock handed out three assists, followed by two for Tomalia and one for Nora Rafferty. Jackie Mabry had two forced turnovers. Brookelyn Jenkins made eight saves and Sophie Anthony had five saves.

Guerin Catholic led the Royals 4-3 after a tight first quarter. The Golden Eagles led 8-6 at halftime, then pulled away in the second half, outscoring Southeastern 8-0.

Caroline Ford led GC’s scoring with four goals. Gabby Deer and Claire Flannangan each scored three goals for GC, while Lucy Esposito and Jane Cline both scored two goals. Deer had six draw controls, while Ford had four draw controls and picked up four ground balls. Audrey Papay made six saves, while Lila Voelkel had two saves.

Sarah Gastineau scored three goals for the Royals. Evelynn Armstrong, Reese Bradley and Reagan Janes all scored one each.

In the Class 1A semi-state, Fishers lost to Brownsburg 15-10. Maddie Harmeyer scored five goals for the Tigers, with Amy Cooke and Greta Scott both scoring two goals. Zoey Newell had one goal. Harmeyer collected 15 ground balls, while Cooke had three forced turnovers.
