At approximately 10 a.m. Sunday, July 26, Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a serious crash at the intersection of State Road 37 and 266th Street. That’s eight miles east of Arcadia and approximately 5.5 miles northeast of Strawtown.
According to preliminary information, a Jeep Grand Cherokee (carrying one person) was eastbound on 266th Street and stopped at the stop sign for SR 37. A Chevrolet Impala (carrying two people) was southbound on SR 37. The Jeep began to pull onto SR 37 in an attempt to travel south. Upon initialing the right-hand turn, the southbound Chevrolet struck the Jeep on its driver’s side. The Jeep appeared to fail to yield the right-of-way to the southbound Chevy.
Both vehicles suffered catastrophic damage as a result of the collision. Both drivers sustained minor or moderate injuries and were transported to area hospitals. The passenger of the Chevy was transported to an area hospital but succumbed to fatal injuries. The deceased passenger of the Chevy was identified as Mary West, 88, Frankton. A dog in the Chevy was also killed in the crash.
