Main Street in Sheridan is looking a little more festive for fall.
Scarecrows on Main, a Sheridan Events fundraiser, returns to Main Street for its second year. This year, the committee is excited to be more community-focused than ever.
What began as a creative way to raise funds while highlighting local businesses during the fall festival season has become a community-wide activation. This year, scarecrows extend beyond Main Street, with displays throughout town created by Sheridan residents, businesses, and organizations. The committee hopes the expanded Scarecrows on Main will encourage families to get out, interact with their town, and enjoy the fun and creative seasonal display together.
This year’s theme celebrates the Sheridan Blackhawk, and families are encouraged to find all of the scarecrows, and spy the Blackhawk hiding on each one. A map of all scarecrow locations will be available at SheridanEvents.org to help families make their way around town. Kids who find every Blackhawk can claim a prize at the Sheridan Events trunk during the Main Street Halloween festivities on Oct. 31.
While you’re there, pick a favorite scarecrow and cast your vote with pocket change, too. The winner will receive the Golden Pumpkin, passed from winner to winner each year. The people’s choice scarecrow will also receive a check for half of the registration pot, which has already grown to more than $700.
All of this autumn fun serves a larger purpose. Proceeds from Scarecrows on Main go directly toward funding free community events in Sheridan in 2027. This includes Rev’d Up Rides, the Town of Sheridan Fourth of July Celebration, Harvest Moon, and other programming throughout the year.
Although Harvest Moon 2026 was canceled due to construction along State Road 47, the committee is already looking ahead and preparing for its hopeful return in 2027.
So this October, keep an eye on Main Street, or plan a visit to Sheridan; and start deciding which scarecrow deserves the Golden Pumpkin.
