Christopher Barrows, Hamilton County IV-D Court Commissioner, has announced his candidacy for Judge of the newly created Hamilton County Superior Court 9.
“Most of my legal career has been focused on dispute resolution,” Barrows said. “I’ve worked for decades as a lawyer, mediator, arbitrator, Judge Pro Tem, and have presided over our child support court since 2022. The folks in Hamilton County need a judge in Superior 9 with the experience to jump in and immediately have the new court up and running efficiently. Judges serve the community by handling cases fairly and efficiently, applying the law as the legislature has written it regardless of our personal beliefs. And I have the experience, integrity, and dedication to do just that. It is important we remember that lawyers and judges are community servants.”
Barrows has served our community as an attorney, mediator, and child advocate for more than 25 years. His focus has been mediation and family law, but he has experience as a lawyer, Court Commissioner, and Judge Pro Tem in all areas of civil and criminal law that would come before him in Superior Court 9. He is especially proud of his many years of work as Guardian ad Litem in Hamilton County on behalf of children and the elderly and his service as a mediator for modest means family law cases. In 2022, he was appointed to serve as Court Commissioner for Hamilton County Title IV-D court.
He has held leadership roles in the Indiana State Bar Association, Indianapolis Bar Association, Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (founding member, and second President of the Indiana Chapter), and the Hamilton County Bar Association. For decades, he has volunteered his time to teach attorney continuing education classes and has testified before the Indiana legislature.
Barrows has lived in Hamilton County his whole life.
“This is my home,” he said. “It is where I choose to raise my family and grow my business, where I have coached youth sports and where I have grown along with the county.”
Barrows said he is proud of the county’s growth and recognizes that fast growth brings challenges, including the need for new Superior Court 9. He has the experience to preside in Superior 9 from day one to support public safety and ensure disputes can be resolved efficiently.
“I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get that done,” he said.
Chris Barrows is looking forward to spending time with new friends and old while campaigning for Judge of Hamilton County Superior 9.
