Carmel Police Department has designated two parking spaces at 3 Civic Square in Carmel for the Safe Exchange Zone program. These parking spaces are located directly in front of the police department with ample signage, good lighting and 24/7 video surveillance. Citizens wanting a safe location to conduct social media, internet, local classifieds or any other face to face transactions are welcome to utilize this area. VIN or serial number checks may be provided during normal working hours only, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
In addition, Carmel Police Department employees will not act as witness or be a part of any transactions. Remember that police personnel are not trained nor authorized to validate the legitimacy of any transaction, item for sale, the integrity or legality of a sale. The Carmel Police Department is simply providing a safe location to conduct business.
This community outreach program is just another example of how the Carmel Police Department works together with the public to make the city of Carmel a safe and caring community.
