Fennig joined United Way’s executive team in 2019. Among his many achievements, Fennig helped facilitate the merger of United Way of Central Indiana and United Way of Putnam County in 2021 – the first expansion of United Way’s service area since 1970. He also led the deployment of the Central Indiana COVID-19 Community Economic Relief Fund (C-CERF) grants to organizations supporting residents in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks and Morgan counties. Prior to United Way, Fennig served as vice president of public affairs for Indianapolis Public Power & Light Company (now AES Indiana) and as president and CEO of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.

Hanscom joined United Way as vice president of marketing in 2019. In 2020, Hanscom and the marketing and communications team led the effort to promote C-CERF, a community response to the pandemic, which raised over $28.5 million. Hanscom also helped organize two new successful fundraising events, Over the Edge and Care-oke, and has grown United Way’s digital presence to better tell the nonprofit’s story and connect with donors, volunteers and advocates. In 2021, the Indianapolis Business Journal selected Hanscom for its annual Forty Under 40 list for his demonstrated leadership and achievement.

“On behalf of our board and staff, we would like to thank Greg for his exceptional service to United Way and congratulate him for an outstanding 29-year career in service to our Central Indiana community,” said United Way President & CEO Ann D. Murtlow. “Greg leaves big shoes to fill, but we are confident Peter is the right choice to lead our marketing, communications and community relations team. Peter has proven to be an inspiring leader, an exceptional strategist, a natural communicator, and a passionate promoter of United Way and its impact across our seven counties.”
