This week, The Salvation Army of Central Indiana is celebrating National Donut Day by thanking donors, the community, and local Veterans honoring the historic legacy of the Donut Lassies who served soldiers during World War I.
Through June 5, The Salvation Army of Central Indiana will thank community partners, donors, and local veterans with a donut and a simple heartfelt “thank you.” This continues the tradition of the women who served donuts and coffee to troops on the front lines. They would later be called “Donut Lassies.”
National Donut Day Celebration at Pana Donuts
Friday, June 5
To cap off the week, The Salvation Army will join Pana Donuts in Carmel, 2284 E. 116th St., on Friday, June 5, for a community celebration of National Donut Day. Pana Donuts is generously donating 15 percent of all sales that day to support The Salvation Army’s programs in Central Indiana.
This marks the second consecutive year of Pana Donuts’ National Donut Day partnership. Last year, the shop donated more than $6,000, funds that stayed entirely in central Indiana to help families with rent, utilities, and food assistance.
“National Donut Day is a joyful tradition, but it’s also a reminder of the compassion and courage that shaped our mission,” said Major Dan Sawka, General Secretary of The Salvation Army Indiana. “As we honor the Donut Lassies and thank our partners, donors, and veterans, we’re celebrating the spirit of service that continues to strengthen our community today.”
National Donut Day is more than a fun celebration; it is a reminder of The Salvation Army’s long history of service, compassion, and community partnership. This year’s events highlight the organization’s ongoing mission to meet human needs without discrimination, while honoring the legacy of those who served before.
