Tennis sectional draw announced

The IHSAA announced the pairings for its 64 sectional tournaments on Sunday, May 17.

Hamilton County teams will be scattered among three sectional sites. Carmel hosts Sectional 35, with play starting today with first-round matches at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center at 5:15 p.m.

The No. 3-ranked Greyhounds play No. 13 Zionsville in an opening-round match. No. 1-rated Guerin Catholic takes on University. The winners play for the championship at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

The other two sites involving local teams begin play on Wednesday, with all matches starting at 4:30 p.m.

Fishers hosts Sectional 31; the No. 14 Tigers take on No. 30 Hamilton Southeastern in the first round. The other match will see Anderson play Pendleton Heights. Wednesday winners will play for the championship at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Noblesville hosts Sectional 56. The Millers play Lapel in the first round, while No. 10 Westfield will face Hamilton Heights. The winners advance to the championship, also set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Golden Eagles get top-10 win

Guerin Catholic scored a victory over a top 10 team this past weekend, gaining a 4-1 victory over No. 8 Munster on Saturday, May 16 at the Carmel Racquet Club.

All matches were decided in straight sets. In singles, No. 2 Cece Phillips won 6-3, 6-4 and No. 3 singles Anna Kolb was victorious 6-4, 6-1. The doubles went fast, as No. 1 Abby Quigley and Katie Kolb won 6-1, 6-0 and No. 2 Grace Docktor and Maddy Hood scored a 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
