April is School Library Month, a time to recognize the spaces – and the people – who ignite curiosity, nurture critical thinking, and open doors to new worlds for students every single day.
Tipton Community School Corporation’s (TCSC) media centers are far more than book-filled rooms. They are hubs of exploration, creativity, and connection. At the center of it all is Media Center Specialist D’Lee Bammer, whose passion and expertise elevate the learning experience for students at every age.
TCSC is home to three vibrant and uniquely designed media centers, all guided under the leadership of D’Lee Bammer. She is supported by dedicated media center assistants: Jane Anderson at Tipton Elementary School, Bobbi Schneider at Tipton Middle School, and Alina Henry at Tipton High School. They each help bring these spaces to life each day. Across all three buildings, there is always something new, engaging, and inspiring happening in these interactive learning environments.
Today’s school libraries look different than they once did. They are dynamic, flexible learning environments where students discover not only stories, but also digital literacy, research skills, and the confidence to navigate an information-rich world. Whether students are diving into a new novel, collaborating on a project, or learning how to evaluate online sources, the media center is where curiosity meets guidance.
Bammer plays a vital role in making that happen. She is the steady, welcoming presence who helps students find the right book at the right moment, encourages them to stretch their thinking, and teaches them how to access and use information responsibly. Her work supports teachers, enriches classroom learning, and ensures that every student – from the youngest readers to graduating seniors – has access to resources that spark imagination and deepen understanding.
Her impact is felt in countless ways:
- In the excitement of a student discovering a new favorite author
- In the quiet confidence of a child learning to research independently
- In the collaborative energy of classes exploring new ideas together
- In the safe, inviting space she creates for all learners
School libraries shape futures. Librarians make that possible.
Throughout this month, TCSC has celebrated the essential role of its media centers and extends heartfelt appreciation to Bammer, Anderson, Schneider, and Henry for their dedication, their expertise, and the joy they bring to students each day. Their work proves that libraries are not just places where students go … they are places where students grow.
