Dear Editor:

As both a Hamilton Southeastern parent and taxpayer, I’m happy to see the recent upward trajectory of our school district.

You may have seen the recent news that HSE students scored over 20 points higher than the state average on ILEARN, and 96 percent of students passed IREAD3. There has been a consistent effort to move the school district in a direction focused on academic excellence, and we all should be thrilled with these wonderful achievements by our students and teachers!

I’m excited to be sending my two high schoolers off to HSE this year, confident that everyone from the teachers and school staff to Superintendent Mapes and the school board are focused on making sure students are put first. These test results aren’t just about a few weeks in the spring, they’re the culmination of a whole year of supporting students.

As someone who chose to build a family in this area largely because of the school district, it’s wonderful to see the efforts of our students, teachers and administration paying off. I want to thank everyone who made these recent achievements possible. Our kids and our community are better because of your hard work!
