Feinstein’s at Hotel Carmichael in Carmel is modeled after the legendary 54 Below in New York City and in the spirit of the Great American Songbook. The club was founded in a partnership with the multi-platinum-selling, two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy Award-nominated entertainer Michael Feinstein.
The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook is not able to make it back to his namesake club often, so it is with great excitement that Feinstein’s welcomes him back for a two-night event Sept. 21 and 22.
Feinstein has built a career over the last three decades bringing the music of the Great American Songbook to the world. His work as an educator and archivist define him as one of the most important musical forces of our time.
In 2007, he founded the Great American Songbook Foundation, dedicated to celebrating the art form and preserving it through educational programs, Master Classes, and the annual High School Songbook Academy. Past graduates of the program have gone on to appear in major motion pictures and on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, lead an all-star cast in NBC’s Hairspray Live, perform on Broadway, record acclaimed albums, and perform on-stage with Feinstein himself.
Feinstein also serves on the Library of Congress’ National Recording Preservation Board, which ensures the future of America’s sound recording heritage.
For most of his 50-year career, he has shown his love for the great American songs by performing them. In recent years, he has become increasingly dedicated to passing his love of the great songs to the next generation.
For Feinstein, the Great American Songbook isn’t just music from before 1950. In a recent interview with CBS, Feinstein said, “I think that Carole King and Billy Joel and Neil Sedaka and Elton John – they’re all part of the American Songbook. It’s not just the 1910s and the ‘20s and the ‘30s; it is evolving.”
Feinstein still performs live all over the country because the best way of all to keep the classics alive is to sing them. Whether you grew up listening to songs from the Great American Songbook or just appreciate the incredible sounds of the great musicians of our time, plan to come out to see the amazing Michael Feinstein Sept. 21 and 22 at his namesake club.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and drinks, with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. both evenings. Check out feinsteinshc.com to get your tickets for this event and to see what else is coming up.
