Volleyball: Huskies break New Pal drought

The Hamilton Heights girls volleyball team scored its first win over New Palestine in five years on Wednesday.

The Huskies won 26-24, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22 in a close match. Macie Smith played an all-around solid match for Heights.

The Huskies are 9-2 and play tonight at Lawrence North.

Sheridan swept International on Wednesday, 25-15, 25-6, 26-24.

Lainey Mendenhall led the Blackhawks’ offense with 10 kills, followed by Amiyah Doss with eight, Emily Will with four and Adria Jump with three. Jump dished out 24 assists and also scored 13 service points, including three aces.

Meredith Krupp tallied 12 service points and served two aces. Beth Adams hit three aces and Eva Todd scored two.

On defense, Todd collected 13 digs, Mendenhall added 10, Krupp made seven and Jump collected six. Doss made two solo blocks.

The Blackhawks host Traders Point Christian on Tuesday in a varsity-only match. Start time is 6 p.m.
