Last Saturday, July 26, the Cicero American Legion Riders held their much-anticipated Mongo’s Ride event, and it was nothing short of a tremendous success. In its seventh year, more than 60 motorcycles participated in a powerful tribute to local hero Luke “Mongo” Frist, who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving our country, the community came together to honor service, sacrifice, and brotherhood.

The event raised more than $15,000 for the Veterans Support Network, a local initiative that provides critical assistance to veterans in need. These funds will go directly toward supporting housing, medical, and basic needs for local veterans – making a real impact right here in our community.

In a highlight of the event, Platinum-level sponsors were given the unforgettable opportunity to take flight in a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter, provided by American Huey 369, offering a powerful and emotional connection to military history. The event also featured a special appearance by Department of Indiana American Legion Commander Ron Patterson, who joined attendees in honoring Mongo’s legacy and the broader mission of supporting veterans.

Adding a deeply personal and emotional element to the day, the Veterans and Athletes United Traveling Memorial Wall was on display – a tribute to fallen heroes that includes Luke “Mongo” Frist’s name among the many who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The presence of the memorial provided attendees a place for quiet reflection and remembrance.

“The Cicero American Legion Riders are honored to carry on Luke’s legacy by hosting this event and giving back to the veterans that have served our country in his name,” said Allison Hardy, event coordinator and American Legion Rider.

Following the ride, participants gathered for food, music, and fellowship at the Harley-Davidson dealership in Fishers, with delicious meals catered by Texas Roadhouse of Fishers. Riders and supporters enjoyed a festive atmosphere filled with gratitude and community spirit.

Special thanks go out to the volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who made the event possible, including Daniel Grose, who captured stunning photos that truly told the story of the day, and Greg Marcuson, who provided incredible drone footage that beautifully showcased the scope and emotion of the ride.

Mongo’s Ride is a testament to what’s possible when a community comes together for a cause greater than themselves – and a lasting tribute to one man’s legacy of service.
