The Delaware Township Community Center is temporarily closed after a lightning strike nearly a week ago caused significant damage, the township trustee announced Monday afternoon.
The lightning strike led to a fire and subsequent flooding, making the facility uninhabitable.
Restoration efforts began last Wednesday and were expected to take several months.
Trustee Debbie Driskell said on Facebook, “We are grateful for the outpouring of support from our community. We look forward to celebrating and welcoming everyone back to the community center as quickly as possible.”
The township government facility is located at 9090 E. 131st St., just west of State Road 37.
