Volleyball: Sheridan wins 2 of 3, Westfield falls to HSE after beating Carmel, Heights wins in five sets over Noblesville

The Sheridan volleyball team has had a busy week, with three matches.

First, the Blackhawks beat Tipton in a five-set thriller on Monday. The set scores were 23-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13. It was the first time Sheridan had beaten the Blue Devils in 10 years.

Kenzie Garner hit 10 kills for the Blackhawks, followed by Nova Cross with a season-high 13, Trinity Parkin with 11, Adria Jump with a season-high nine and Lainey Mendenhall with five. Sheridan had a team total of 57 kills, the most for the season.

Sheridan also collected a season-high 95 digs as a team. Meredith Krupp had 28 digs, followed by Garner with 25 and Cross with 20; all are season highs. Jump made eight digs and Parkin collected seven.

Beth Adams served four aces, Parkin hit three, while Cross, Krupp and Garner all had two. Jump dished out a season-high 45 assists, Cross and Garner both had four and Krupp added three. Mendenhall made a season-high four blocks, while Parkin and Garner each had one.

On Tuesday, the Blackhawks dropped a four-set match to Frankfort 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23. Garner hit 15 kills, with Parkin putting down 12 kills. Jump had six kills, while Cross and Mendenhall both hit four.  Garner and Jump each served three aces. Jump dished out 28 assists and Krupp handed out five.

Jump led the defense with 22 digs, while Garner collected 20 digs. Cross had 16 digs, followed by Krupp with 14, Adams with nine, Ali Pickard with eight and Parkin with six.

Sheridan bounced back on Wednesday with a Hoosier Heartland Conference victory over Clinton Prairie 25-11, 25-10, 25-20. It was the first victory for the Hawks over the Gophers in at least 12 years.

Mendenhall hit a season-high 11 kills on 14 attempts. Parkin hit 10 kills followed by Garner with eight, Cross with three and Jump and Adams with two each. Parkin and Jump both served four aces, Adams served two and Krupp had one. Jump handed out 31 assists.

Cross, Garner and Jump led the defense with 11 digs each, followed by Krupp with 10. Garner made two solo blocks, with Mendenhall and Jump both making one solo block.

Sheridan improved to 4-1 in conference play and is 11-7 overall. The Hawks play another conference match tonight at Delphi.

Hamilton Southeastern swept Westfield Wednesday in an all-county and Hoosier Crossroads Conference match.

The Royals won 25-20, 25-17, 25-18. Lindsey Mangelson put down 22 kills, with Madison Miles hitting 14 kills. Mangelson also served three aces. Ava Hunter made three blocks and dished out 34 assists. Maye McConnell had 13 digs.

Carsyn Comer hit 18 kills for the Shamrocks, while Audrey Davis and Audrey Bassett both had 14 kills. Comer also made five digs and four blocks, with Brooke Neale collecting six digs. Emily Blevins handed out 17 assists and Izzy Jackson had 11 assists.

Southeastern is 3-1 in conference play and 15-1 overall. The Royals travel to the New Castle Invitational on Saturday. Westfield is also 3-1 in HCC action and 13-5 overall; the Rocks play at Delta Saturday morning.

In an earlier all-county match, Westfield beat Carmel in five sets 25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 22-25, 15-9 on Monday.

Comer hit 16 kills, followed by Ava Stewart with 13. Comer also had seven blocks. Bassett made 20 digs, with Blevins collecting 18 and Neale getting 15. Blevins and Jackson both dished out 25 assists.

Noema Philistin-Lynch hit 16 kills for the Greyhounds, with Samantha Adams putting down 10. Sarah Neglia served four aces. Lexi Kevesh made 22 digs and London Evans had 17. Amanda Ailes dished out 19 assists and Evans handed out 17.

Carmel came back on Tuesday to beat Lawrence North in four sets, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19.

Avery Carroll put down 13 kills, with Emily Overbeck and Evans both hitting 10. Ailes dished out 22 assists and Evans made 18 assists. Evans also had 14 digs, followed by Kedvesh with 11 and Neglia with 10.

The Greyhounds won an all-county match over Fishers in four sets Wednesday, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-13. Stats were not available at press time.

Carmel is 5-14 and hosts North Central on Tuesday. The Tigers are 11-7; they fell in four sets to Center Grove on Monday 25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 25-11. Fishers travels to Brownsburg tonight for an HCC match, then plays in the New Castle Invitational on Saturday.

Hamilton Heights won a five-set match over Noblesville on Tuesday, 25-14, 23-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-13.

Macie Smith hit 25 kills for the Huskies, with Emma Blanton putting down 12 and Olivia Schiffli 10. Schiffli also served six aces and Sierra Bramel hit four aces in addition to handing out 23 assists. Kennedy Cherry collected 25 digs and Katie Brown made 10 digs. Ellie Miller had 17 assists.

Noblesville stats were not available. The Millers came back to beat Delta in four sets Wednesday, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19.

Heights is 15-3 and hosts Lapel next Wednesday. Noblesville is 11-4 and plays Monday at Muncie Burris.
