Dear Editor:

Unify Fishers is pleased with the passage of House Bill 1134, but there is much more additional work to be continued in order to get HB 1134 through the Senate.

Unify Fishers members have been working on the issues this bill address for over two years.  Collectively, thousands of hours have been poured into this and other bills as we have been working with parents, teachers, and lawmakers to identify issues and sought to rectify them.  Unfortunately, many school boards have ignored parents’ request for transparency in the curricula as well as districts noncompliance issues regarding Indiana state laws.

Tiffany Pasoe is a UF member who has been spent a great deal of time down at the Statehouse communicating with parents, teachers and state leaders.

She believes the transparency HB1134 provides parents to see material being taught to their children, creating more transparency, narrows communication gaps, builds back trust, while holding all accountable to academic excellence.

Shayre Rivotto is a parent that spearheaded many initiatives after observing some situations in the HSE school that were irregular. She is appreciative of Representatives Goodrich and Cook for listening to the parents and taking action.

Other volunteers like Rachel Quade, a Fishers realtor, are thankful for Republicans’ leadership stepping in when many districts and school boards have glossed over numerus concerns that have been discovered.

Unify Fishers is a group of volunteers consisting of parents, community leaders and advocates to build a better community and school system in Fishers. For more information or to get involved, go to unifyfishers.com or join our Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/unifyfishers.
