Hamilton Southeastern is back in the sectional winner’s circle.

The Royals claimed their first sectional title since 2015 last Saturday, winning a competitive Frankfort sectional. Southeastern scored 238.5 points, had four champions, and most importantly, qualified all 14 of its wrestlers to this Saturday’s North Montgomery regional. It was the Royals’ 10th regional title in program history.

“Overall, we wrestled really well,” said HSE coach Nick Brobst. “We had a lot of kids do as well or better than we wanted them to be. We knew if we finished where we should finish, we would probably be the team on top at the end of the day.”

The Royals had four champions: Nick Anderson at 126, Chris Casler at 144, Zach Lang at 157 and Evan Lawhead at 215. De Shawn Ternoir was the 190-pound runner-up.

Southeastern’s nine other wrestlers all won at least one match in the wrestleback round, which guaranteed them a place at regional in addition to scoring extra team points.

“Those were huge,” said Brobst.

Carmel was the team runner-up, scoring 208 points. The Greyhounds also had four champions, including the first two: Carlo Federici won at 106 and Tamir Halevi was the 113-pound champion. Caleb Mattingly won at 132 and Killian Miller was the 285 winner.

Westfield took third as a team by scoring 197.5 points. The Shamrocks had five runners-up: Keegan Carson (106), Porter Temples (120), Carter Niccum (126), Chase Camire (132) and Jake Saez (138), with seven more placing in the top four to give the Shamrocks 12 regional qualifiers.

Fishers finished fourth with 172.5 points. The Tigers had three individual champions, starting with Chayce Yant at 120 pounds. Teyon Leonard won at 138 pounds and Xavier Smith claimed the 165-pound championship.

Will Hruskoci was the 113-pound runner-up and Diego Carabano took second at 175. Fishers advanced six wrestlers to the regional.
