Dear Editor:

The Sheridan Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has the privilege of working alongside the dedicated teachers and staff of Sheridan Community Schools. As a self-funded nonprofit, we understand firsthand the challenges of balancing rising costs with limited budgets. We also recognize the importance of being responsible stewards of the resources entrusted to us.

On Nov. 3, 2026, our community will have an important opportunity to support the future of Sheridan Community Schools by voting on the school referendum.

Superintendent Mundy has already demonstrated a commitment to fiscal responsibility by eliminating and combining positions and making numerous other cost-saving decisions. These efforts have helped advance our schools while being mindful of the financial burden on taxpayers. However, even the most responsible leadership cannot make rising costs disappear or create resources where none exist.

Our schools are among the pillars of our community. They are a source of pride for families with and without school-age children. Strong schools help make Sheridan an attractive place to live, raise a family, and build a future. Most importantly, they prepare the next generation of leaders who will shape the future of Sheridan, Indiana.

This referendum is about more than a tax rate. It is about supporting the educators who show up for our children every day, preserving the quality of education, our community values, and ensuring Sheridan remains a place where students have the opportunity to thrive. At a time when schools across the nation face challenges recruiting and retaining teachers, maintaining reliable local funding is essential.

We understand that every tax dollar matters. We also believe that investing responsibly in our schools is an investment in our children, our community, and our future.

On November 3, please vote YES on the school referendum to help our schools continue delivering the outstanding educational experience that makes Sheridan special.

Our children are our future, and their future is worth supporting.
