With the conclusion of the high school spring sports season last month, the IHSAA announced the schools that achieved the state’s highest sportsmanship numbers.
Sheridan High School (SHS) scored 123/100 sportsmanship points during the 2024-2025 school year. In order to go above the 100 points given at the beginning of the year, teams can complete an online NFHS Sportsmanship Course, have parental meetings, student attendance at fall principals’ meetings, and especially through submitted exemplary sportsmanship reports.
Points are deducted by contest ejections of players, coaches, administrators, and fans.

The extra 23 points is a reflection of player sportsmanship, coaches’ sportsmanship, fan sportsmanship, officials ratings, and athletic director compliance. This is a great accomplishment and honor for the athletes and those involved with the athletics at SHS. Well done!
“We are again so proud to have received this award for five consecutive years!” SHS Athletic Director Beth DeVinney said. “This is a testament to our coaches and their programs as well as the culture that we expect in our athletic programs.”
Sheridan Athletics will receive a sportsmanship banner to add to the gym display this fall.
