Dear Editor:

The Great American Songbook Foundation has pulled off one of the greatest disappearing acts since Houdini.

It took a $30 million donation of the Asherwood Estate to an actual price of $8.5 million – 72 percent. The slash in value resulted from utopian ideas collided with hard-nosed reality.

Press reports in 2017 cited the donation as worth $30 million.

The foundation’s fiscal 2017 report to the IRS listed total assets of $16.5 million of which $15 million was listed as “property held for sale.”

County property records show sales in 2021 of foundation property for $8.5 million.

Inquiries to the foundation remain unanswered.

Is it time for a full-blown audit of that bunch?
