Reader calls out Carmel for debt, deficit spending

Dear Editor:

Fred Swift’s information roundup of planned Carmel street work reminds us Carmelists the city has lavished $347 million on new construction since 2011 – $195.4 million last year alone, according to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.

Virtually every dime was deficit spending, coming from increased debt that has no immediate impact on taxes but mortgages the futures of our children and grandchildren.
