Dear Editor:
One of the most meaningful parts of running for re-election to the Noblesville Schools Board of Trustees has been receiving support across political parties – including from people who did not support me during my first campaign.
Four years ago, I brought the fresh set of eyes I felt our board needed as I had many questions about how our district operated. Once elected, I quickly learned the full picture of the requirements and limitations our district faces in addition to all of the work that goes into running such a high-performing school system.
Serving these past four years has deepened my understanding of how much control our federal and state governments have over public schools and how little room districts have for error. This experience hasn’t diminished my willingness to ask questions; rather, it has taught me to ask better-informed questions, recognize where we have flexibility, and understand where change requires action beyond our boardroom.
My experience on various boards and as a Realtor has taught me to bring different perspectives together and work through disagreements respectfully. We don’t have to agree on everything to work well together; exemplary boards grow stronger through listening, honest conversations, and a commitment to considering all perspectives before making decisions. Above all, those decisions must remain focused on what is truly important: our students, our schools, and our community.
Those who know me personally know that I am a life-long resident, parent, and constant champion for Noblesville and I have no trouble asking questions or voicing my opinion; good, bad, or indifferent. I’m grateful for those who have supported me from the beginning and those whose trust I’ve earned along the way. I would be honored to continue serving with the curiosity I brought four years ago, strengthened by the experience I’ve gained since.
