On Monday, Carmel Police responded to assist the Carmel Fire Department on what was originally dispatched as an unknown medical call to a home in the 3500 block of Rolling Springs Drive.
Upon arrival, it was determined that a male victim, David R. Claerbout, 75, was found deceased with multiple stab wounds. A second victim, a female, was located partially bound and seriously battered.
Officers determined the suspect was the son of the two victims, Christopher B. Claerbout, 40. Claerbout fled the scene in a vehicle prior to arrival of emergency personnel. With assistance from the Indiana State Police, the vehicle was located traveling south on Interstate 65 in Clark County. The suspect fled on foot from officers during an initial traffic stop and was later apprehended by the Indiana State Police and Clark County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Claerbout was treated and released at a Southern Indiana hospital before being transported back to the Hamilton County Jail with the following preliminary charges:
- Murder – a Felony
- Criminal Confinement with Serious Bodily Injury – Level 3 Felony
- Domestic Battery with Serious Bodily Injury – Level 5 Felony
Carmel Police were assisted by Fishers PD, Indiana State Police, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office and the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
