From classical to country, from juggling to ukulele, the Center for the Performing Arts has something for every during the month of May.

Beginner Ukulele Classes

Wednesdays May 4 to June 1 at 8 p.m.
Shiel Sexton Songbook Lounge in the Palladium

Never played the ukulele but want to learn? This five-week class is for you. In this skills-based course, students will learn basic strums and chords by focusing on a new song each week. Students may remain in this group until they feel confident to move on to General Ukulele.

Recommended for ages 14 and up.

Gary LeVox

Thursday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m.

After 20 years as front man to one of the most influential groups in country history, Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox is embarking on a solo chapter that combines two of his biggest passions – music and faith. His debut solo collection, the five-song One on One, includes collaborations with Grammy-winning gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds, country-rap firebrand Breland and contemporary Christian band MercyMe. Alongside new songs in this acoustic performance, fans can expect hits from Rascal Flatts, a band that scored 17 No. 1 singles and earned over 40 awards-show trophies, making them the most awarded country group of the past decade.

An Evening with Michael Feinstein and guest Sandi Patty

The Palladium

The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook is joined by the acclaimed contemporary Christian vocalist for an evening of timeless music. Michael Feinstein, a five-time Grammy Award nominee, is Founder of the Great American Songbook Foundation and Artistic Director for the Center for the Performing Arts.

Sandi Patty, nicknamed “The Voice” for her wide range and expressiveness, has claimed 40 Dove Awards among other accolades. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and awarded the Indiana Historical Society’s Living Legend designation in 2007.

“Defying Gravity” with juggler Jack Denger

Carmel native Jack Denger began juggling at age 7 and has been hooked ever since, winning international awards and competitions with skill matched by few. Join him for an exciting display of juggling to music with balls, clubs and rings – and even explore the objects he uses to do it.

Designed for children ages 1 to 7, Faegre Drinker Peanut Butter & Jam sessions encourage young children to become engaged in the arts. Join us for these informal 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday performances.

Luminaries: The Eclectic World of the Harp

Tuesday, May 24 at 2 p.m.

Harpist Melissa Gallant will discuss and demonstrate the many sound possibilities of the instrument, with examples including beautiful Celtic melodies and French Romantic solos. She will share stories behind the pieces and describe the life of a professional harpist, today and in the past. Spark your own creativity as she shares her sound explorations on the electronic harp.

The 2 p.m. presentation will be followed by light refreshments.

Sophie Faught Quartet

Live at the Center
Friday, May 27 at 8 p.m.
The Palladium

Tenor saxophonist Sophie Faught has performed in venues across the country and world, including Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City and the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She has headlined at the nationally recognized Portland Jazz Festival and toured as a member of the Nicholas Payton Jazz Quintet. She currently leads her own jazz quartet and performs often in Bloomington and Indianapolis. Learn more at sophiefaught.com.

Live at the Center is a series of livestreamed concerts for the community, featuring local and regional artists in genres from jazz and classical to soul and indie rock. Whether on desktop, mobile device or smart TV, viewers anywhere can enjoy a front-row perspective on Indiana’s top talent, with stereo sound and multi-camera HD video. For its second season, Live at the Center is welcoming live, in-person audiences at just $5 per person. Seating is limited.
