April 21, 1955 – January 4, 2022
James Michael (Mike) Ducy, 66, Carmel, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. He was born on April 21, 1955, in Muncie to James Richard and Vivienne (Bergfalk) Ducy.
Mike attended Blackford High School where he once held multiple records as a freestyle swimmer and graduated in 1973.
While Mike had several jobs early in life, in the 1980s, he found a way to turn his passion for running into a business. Mike began a small business acting as the official timer in local running races. Because of Mike’s customer service and impeccable attention to detail, his business, “The End Result Company” expanded state and nationwide. Before selling his business, Mike and his team were responsible for providing the times and results for many large races such as: The Indianapolis Mini Marathon, Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and the Disney World marathon, to name a few.
While Mike loved the challenge of providing the results for the big races, he never lost sight of the smaller local races around the state of Indiana, many of which were charitable fund-raising events. Mike’s other passion was timing high school and college cross country races. Mike and his longtime friend, Marty Day, could be seen many nights and weekends at the finish line of a cross country course.
Whether a race had 50 runners or 20,000, Mike was meticulous in his preparation and planning so that providing the results to the runners looked easy. If you ran or walked in road races between 1985 and 2010, there is a good possibility that Mike provided a race result for you.
Although Mike has crossed the finish line, his many years encouraging the fourth and fifth grade boys and girls involved with the Carmel Pup Running program has ensured that there is another generation that will develop a lifelong passion for running.
Most recently, Mike worked as a courier for American Expediting. His positive attitude, dedication, and attention to detail led him straight into the fight against COVID-19 as he worked directly with the Lilly testing program. Mike developed many treasured friendships, making these challenging and uncertain times just a little more enjoyable.
Mike was a member of Northview Church in Carmel. He found comfort and resolve in his faith taking every opportunity to share his belief in Jesus Christ as his friend and savior.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, James Richard (Dick) Ducy, and mother, Vivienne B. Ducy.
Survivors include his son, Paxton Michael Ducy of Carmel; daughter, Kandace (Charles) Weaver and grandsons Abram, Owen, Emmitt of Clarksville, Tenn.; daughter, Kaylee (Caleb) Johnson; granddaughter, Mackenzie; grandson, Camden of Wahiawa, Hawaii; sister, Kendra (Susan Bass) Ducy of Indianapolis; brother, James Patrick (Susan Anderson) Ducy of Stoughton, Wis.; and Yvonne Ducy of Carmel.
A Celebration of Life service for Mike will be held in the Spring 2022. Mike’s final resting place will be in Union Cemetery, Eaton, Ind.
