Carmel made it a Homecoming to remember on Friday, Sept. 26.
The Greyhounds overwhelmed North Central – their past and future Metropolitan Conference rival – 63-14 in their Homecoming game at Carmel Stadium. The Hounds put up the most points in a single game since Sept. 9, 2016, when they scored 65 against Pike.
Carmel led 35-0 after the first quarter. Anthony Coellner had a hand in three of those touchdowns, throwing two scoring passes to Spencer Sell (11 and 23 yards). Coellner also made a 24-yard TD run midway through the period.
Jacob Bellin took a punt return 72 yards to the end zone. Ayden Johnson finished the quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run, then scored again in the second quarter, taking the ball in from 16 yards.
Bellin and Coellner teamed up for a 43-yard score midway through the quarter, then Josiah Gilmore punched the ball in from the one-yard line seconds before halftime. Matthew Obermeier was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra-point kicks, while Aaron Orahood kicked the extra point after Gilmore’s TD.
Carmel led 56-0 at the break and the entire second half was played under a running clock. The Hounds got one more touchdown: Maddox Knudson ran the ball one yard to score, with Orahood kicking the extra point. The Panthers scored one touchdown each in the third and fourth quarter.
Coellner was almost perfect, throwing 10-of-11 for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Sell had four of those receptions.
Carmel is 5-1 and plays at Ben Davis this Friday.
