Golden Eagles prevail in battle with Huskies for chance at title

Guerin Catholic won an all-county game at Hamilton Heights 44-27 on Friday to advance to the championship game of Class 3A Sectional 29.

The Golden Eagles went up 14-0 in the first quarter, with Aidan Horn catching a 26-yard touchdown pass from Malcolm Houze, then Dominic Elliott took a blocked punt return 20 yards into the end zone. Joey Sigler got the Huskies on the board with a two-yard run.

Heights worked its way back to a 21-21 tie by halftime. Tyler Champion caught a five-yard TD throw from Sigler, and Nathan Flanders followed that with a two-point conversion run to tie the game at 14-14. Houze made a 40-yard touchdown run to get GC back in front, but Sigler and Champion teamed up again for a 28-yard passing touchdown.

The Golden Eagles led 28-27 after three quarters. Houze ran three yards for a touchdown, while Cam Fleming caught a 15-yard TD pass from Sigler. Guerin Catholic took control in the fourth quarter, starting with a safety to go ahead 30-27. Houze took over from there, with a 10-yard touchdown pass and a three-yard TD run.

The Golden Eagles improved to 6-5 and play at Tri-West next Friday for the Sectional 29 title. Heights finished its season 4-7.
