March marked the 100th edition of our monthly video that features five awesome things about Hamilton Heights. Produced by the exceptionally talented Rodney Freeman, this is just one way we share happenings, successes, people, projects, and other exciting things taking place around our campus with the community. These videos can be accessed through our website and YouTube channel. If you have an item you would like me to include in a future monthly update just let me know. Last week was National Assistant Principals Week – a week dedicated to highlighting the vital role our assistant principals play in the success of our schools. We want to celebrate the contributions of our incredible assistant principals, Whitney Gray and Mitch Street (HHHS), Jill Landers (HHMS), and Ken Watson (HHES) all year long. They make powerful contributions to improving our schools, maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment for our students, and in supporting our teachers in their professional development, to name a few. Your leadership and commitment to our community is truly inspiring. Thank you for enhancing student achievement and outcomes at Heights!

Speaking of achievement, Hamilton Heights Indoor Percussion placed 17th at the Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) State Finals competition in the Percussion Scholastic A class. Five HHMS Robotics teams have qualified to compete at the VEX Worlds Robotic Competition in Dallas, Texas, at the end of the month. Senior Tatym Green has been named as a State Star finalist in the Agriculture Placement category by the Indiana FFA Association. State Star category winners will be announced at the 95th Indiana FFA State Convention in June. Congratulations!

As a reminder, Hamilton Heights High School Honor Society is sponsoring its third and final Blood Drive of the school year next Wednesday, April 17 from 3:30 to 6:40 p.m. at the high school. April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, a time for communities to come together to build caring connections, supportive environments, and positive experiences for all children. While this is an important topic year-round, April gives us the opportunity to shine a light on child abuse and inspire conversations about how to prevent it.
Safeguarding our children is a collective responsibility, one that requires each of us to stay alert to the signs of child abuse and step into action when necessary. Children need all of us to deliver when it comes to their safety and best interests.
Please take time this month to think about what you can do to help a child that may exhibit signs of mistreatment or neglect. If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call the Indiana Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-800-5556. It’s not just the law, it’s the right thing to do. Thank you for joining us in the care, advocacy, and safety of our children every day.
