Fatal crash temporarily closes U.S. 31

At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, Carmel Police responded to an accident on U.S. 31 near the 146th Street overpass. Officers arrived and found two vehicles involved in the crash.

Based on preliminary information, it appears a black 2015 Chevrolet Sonic four-door was traveling southbound U.S. 31 in the northbound lanes. The black Chevrolet then collided head on with a blue 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck (towing a trailer) as it was traveling northbound U.S. 31 near the 146th Street overpass.

The driver of the black Chevrolet was pronounced deceased at the scene. Until next of kin have been notified, the Carmel Police Department and Hamilton County Coroner’s office are not releasing the identity of the driver.

The driver of the blue Dodge was identified as Hooman Ramini, 33, from Nashville, Tenn. Ramini was not injured during the crash.

No criminal charges are being sought.

Accident reconstructionists from the Carmel Police Department are investigating the crash. U.S. 31 was temporarily closed during the investigation.
