Hamilton County golfers are making their presence known at the Indiana Junior PGA Championship, which began Thursday at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru.
Five of the top six players after the first round all have county ties, and all of them went under par. There is presently a three-way tie for first place between Leo Wessel, an incoming junior at Guerin Catholic, Alec Cesare, an incoming senior at Westfield, and Alec’s brother Jake Cesare, an incoming sophomore for the Shamrocks.
All three players finished the first round with a three-under par 69. Jake Cesare made an eagle on hole No. 1, and also drained four birdies. Wessel made four birdies as well, and Alec Cesare had three birdies in a bogey-free round.
Connor McNeely, a recent Guerin Catholic graduate and Cole Starnes, an incoming Hamilton Southeastern senior, are tied for fifth with one under par 71s. Starnes had five birdies while Starnes made three.
The tournament finishes up today with another 18 holes of golf to determine the champion. The top 64 players, including ties, advance to today’s round.
