Golden Eagles stay undefeated

The Guerin Catholic baseball team stayed undefeated after a Thursday 8-0 Circle City Conference win over Bishop Chatard.

The host Golden Eagles started with two runs in the second inning. Bryce Kissell singled in Brody Cain and Tate Troxell. Grant Beard drove in a third-inning with a single to bring Carson Kail home.

Kissell smacked a two-run home run in the fourth inning, also scoring Luke Zorger and giving Guerin Catholic a 5-0 lead.

Karson Smith led off the fifth inning with a triple, then was sent home by Beard’s sacrifice fly. Troxell hit a triple and later scored when Zorger reached on an error, then Nolan Ratcliff singled in Zorger for GC’s eighth run.

Kissell had two hits. Luke Gremelspacher pitched 5.2 innings for the win, striking out eight and allowing two hits. Jackson Baker relieved Gremelspacher and threw 1.1 hitless innings.

The Golden Eagles are 8-0-1 and play this afternoon at Alexandria.

Westfield won a tight Hoosier Crossroads Conference game 3-2 Thursday at home.

Both teams scored two runs in the first inning. Andrew Noble doubled in Maddox Novotney for the Shamrocks’ first run, then Lincoln Hoffman hit a double to score Noble.

Gabe Garcia scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, getting home on Robbie Brandenburg’s RBI groundout.

Hoffman totaled two hits, while Aiden Grabowski also hit a double. Corey Wilhelm got the pitching win, throwing 10 strikeouts over five innings. Clayton Walther pitched the last two innings, striking out three and allowing no hits.

Westfield is 3-0 in HCC play and 5-3 overall. The Rocks play tonight at Brownsburg to finish the conference series.

Hamilton Southeastern scored a walkoff HCC victory over Zionsville 9-8 Thursday at Ken Seitz Field.

Jackson Bixler scored the Royals’ first run in the first inning after a pitcher’s balk. The Eagles came back in the third inning, putting up five runs to take the lead.

Southeastern made its own comeback in the fourth inning, tying the game with four runs. Parker O’Steen tripled Bixler home, then Cy Cole drove in O’Steen with an RBI single. Alex Shepherd hit a double, then Chase Bradle smacked a double to score Cole and Shepherd. The score was now 5-5.

Zionsville scored on an RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth inning for a 6-5 lead. The Royals blasted ahead in the bottom of the sixth after Bucher hit a three-run home run. Bixler and Kian Kelly also scored, and HSE led 8-6.

The Eagles hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, tying the game again at 8-8. Bradle led off the bottom of the seventh with his second double of the game, then Karson Seitz came in to run for him. A sacrifice bunt from Ty McManama moved Seitz to third base, then Bixler singled Seitz home with a line drive for the win.

Dylan Cope pitched six innings, striking out six. Kaden Scholl came in for the seventh inning and got the pitching win.

The Royals are 3-0 in the conference and 8-2 overall. Southeastern travels to Zionsville tonight to finish the HCC series.
