Dr. Cathy Janene Palmer HSSP passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was born on July 21, 1944, in Noblesville to the late Bill & Mary Jean (Mosbaugh) Hosier. On March 6, 1965, Cathy married Dennis Lynn Palmer. They enjoyed 48 years together until Dennis’ passing on July 4, 2013.
Cathy graduated Salutatorian from Walnut Grove High School in 1962. She then continued her education at Ball State University in Muncie. She received her undergraduate degree in English and Psychology in 1965. She was an active member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and continued serving after graduation as an Alumni Advisor to the sorority chapters in and out of Indiana. After college graduation, Cathy taught English at Daleville H.S. She then went on to teach at a high school in Plymouth, Mich., and then returned to Tipton H.S. to teach English and be their counselor. In 1972, she received her master’s degree with a Major in Psychology and a minor in English. From 1972 to 1975, she was an Assistant Professor, Dept. of Psychology and University Counseling Center at Ball State University. From 1975 to 1995 she was the System administrator and Director of Pupil Personal Services for Muncie Schools. She was in charge of their Counselors, Psychologists, At risk programs, evaluation testing, and wrote grants. She continued her education and received her Doctorate in Psychology from Ball State, she then went on to receive her clinical Health Services Provider (HSPP) license. From 1994 to 2019, Cathy was the clinical Psychologist and sole proprietor at her private practice in Muncie, Ind. During this period, she also served as a Medical Associate at IU Health, Ball Memorial Hospital Dept. of Psychiatry.
Cathy thoroughly enjoyed the holidays, birthdays, vacations, and camping with her husband, her sister, her sister’s children, all the family on the Palmer side, and her nieces and nephews. She loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, and feeding and watching birds. She loved and cared for her dog, Ginger, and the cats that found her front door. Cathy loved and cherished her own family and extended family. She spent many weekends at the lakes, mushroom hunting, playing cards, sporting events, and wedding celebrations and new babies with her extended family.
Cathy is survived by her sister, Christine Hosier (John) Law, their children, Tosha (Chris) Luchtefeld and Ryan (Alexis) Law, and their children, Marc, Aaron Luchtefeld, and Jackson, Harper Law. Her secretary at her practice, who was more like a daughter and forever friend, Jessica Powers Brown, and her children, Brantley and Taylor.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Bill & Mary Jean Hosier, and husband, Dennis Palmer.
A celebration of life is planned for 4 to 7 p.m. on January 12, 2024, at Hartley Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero.
In lieu of flowers, please come and share good memories with her family and friends. A private graveside burial with immediate family is planned at a later date.
