The City of Carmel and the Mayor’s Advisory Board on Sister Cities Committees are set to launch an expanded and reimagined holiday event this year with the International Winter Festival.
This free, family-friendly celebration of international culture and music is scheduled for from7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at the Civic Square Gazebo.
Now in its third year, the event, formerly known as Sister Cities Christmas at the Gazebo, has been renamed and enhanced to showcase Carmel’s global partnerships more broadly. The festival will feature a special evening of international Christmas caroling and a display of uniquely decorated Sister City Christmas Trees representing Carmel’s partners in Latvia, Germany, Japan, Italy, France and India as well as guest trees representing China, Egypt, Greece, and Ukraine.
This new version of the festival is designed to be a complementary event to the beloved Carmel Christkindlmarkt, offering a unique, non-commercial experience focused on cultural exchange and community fellowship.

“Carmel is proud of its international connections, and the International Winter Festival is a beautiful way to share those relationships with the community,” Mayor Sue Finkam said. “We encourage everyone to come enjoy the Christkindlmarkt, and then stop by Civic Square just a short walk away for an hour of beautiful international music and the spirit of global friendship.”
All community members are invited to embrace the festive spirit, enjoy delicious coffee, and hot chocolate from Prufrock Coffee Company and discover the diverse traditions that enrich Carmel’s global identity.
