Baseball roundup: University gets perfect Pioneer Conference North record by shutting out Anderson

The University baseball team clinched an undefeated Pioneer Conference North record on Wednesday by beating Anderson Prep 22-0 in five innings.

Mark Hamby cracked a three-run home run in the third inning, this after Jasper Owens hit an RBI triple. Owens totaled three RBIs in all. Owen Schellhase and Cooper Burnett both hit one double each. Ryan Castetter and Beckett Suh both scored three runs, while Ethan Cutsinger had three hits.

Laine Spears pitched all five innings, throwing a no-hitter while striking out nine.

The Blazers are 11-10-1 and play at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon at Cardinal Ritter. University will host Park Tudor Tuesday for the Pioneer Conference championship game.

Guerin Catholic dropped a 5-3 Circle City Conference game Wednesday at Roncalli.

Davis Wagner scored the Golden Eagles’ first run of the game in the first inning. The Royals scored two in the bottom of the second, but GC came back to tie things up in the top of the third; Wagner doubled in Bryson Dorsey to make the score 2-2.

But Roncalli added two runs in the bottom of the fourth and held the lead from there. Dorsey batted in the Golden Eagles’ third run in the fifth inning, hitting a center field double to score Ian Taylor.

Dorsey had two hits, while Tate Troxell also hit a double. Troxell pitched four innings, striking out seven.

Guerin Catholic is 5-2 in conference play and 15-4 overall. The Golden Eagles play Friday at Zionsville.
