The Westfield softball team made an incredible comeback to win its Senior Night game Wednesday.
The Shamrocks beat Hamilton Heights 10-7 in an all-county game. The Huskies led early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Addie Doak scored on a passed ball, then Lily Roush sent Hannah Dent home with a left field hit.
The Huskies added three runs in the third inning. Kamryn Rhoton cracked a triple into center field, scoring Dent and Roush. Rhoton scored on Kassidy Schakel’s RBI groundout. Rhoton then smacked a two-run home run in the fourth inning, bringing in Dent for her third run of the game.
But Westfield blasted back in the fifth inning, when it scored all 10 of its runs. Grace Feltz led off the inning with a double, then scored on a wild pitch. Lilly Amburgey also got home on a wild pitch seconds later. Makayla Watson scored, and the Shamrocks were within 7-3.
Chloe Tanner sent a double into right field to score Cara Snedeker. The Rocks loaded the bases, then Marisa Stormer scored on a bases-loaded walk. Grace Fanelli got home on a wild pitch, then with the bases loaded again, Amburgey was hit by a pitch, sending Reese Mahannah in to tie the game.
Watson put Westfield in the lead, as her left field hit brought Stormer and Feltz home. Amburgey scored on a wild pitch, and that gave the Shamrocks their 10th run of the game.
Fanelli also hit a double in the sixth inning. Chloe Tanner pitched three and a third innings, striking out four and allowing no hits. Rhoton was 3-for-4 at the plate for Heights, including a double, with Roush getting two hits. Roush struck out eight in four and a third innings.
The Shamrocks are 10-9 and play this evening at Lawrence North. The Huskies are 15-7 and play Friday at Alexandria-Monroe.
