Baseball: Heights, Carmel, Guerin Catholic, Sheridan, Southeastern all end regular season with wins

The Hamilton Heights baseball team finished its regular season with an 11-4 win Monday at Frankton.

The Eagles scored all four of their runs in the second inning. The Huskies got on the board in the third inning with one run: Logan Hickman scored on a wild pitch.

Heights blasted off in the fourth inning by putting up seven runs. Cohen Boyd batted in the first run, sending Austin Kappes home with a base hit. Hickman singled P.J. Wright home, then Phoenix Vondersaar cracked a left field double for three runs, scoring Boyd, Levi Chandler and Hickman.

That gave the Huskies a 6-4 lead. Dean Mason added to that lead with a right field double to bring in Vondersaar, then Mason later scored on a wild pitch to put Heights ahead 8-4.

The Huskies scored three more runs in the fifth inning. Hickman sent a two-run hit into right field, sending Wright and Boyd home. Vondersaar batted in the final run with a fielder’s choice to score Chandler; he had four RBIs on the day.

Hickman hit a double during his 3-for-4 game, totaling three RBIs. Dillon Pitts got the pitching win, with five strikeouts in four innings.

Heights finished the regular season 15-13. The Huskies play in Sectional 27 at Brebeuf Jesuit Saturday, taking on Guerin Catholic.

Carmel also got a road victory to wrap up the regular season Monday, beating Mount Vernon 6-2.

The Greyhounds scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Hunter Snow sent JD Stein home with a center field hit, then James Charland’s sacrifice fly brought Tyler Walkey home.

Snow doubled in Walkey for a second inning run, while Sam Woodward scored on Silas Neal’s third inning sacrifice fly.  Snow added a sacrifice fly RBI in the fourth inning, scoring Stein. It was Parker Heaney’s turn in the sixth inning, as his sacrifice fly brought Nate Steele home.

Walkey was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Snow totaled three RBIs. Ivan Dodd went four innings for the pitching win.

Carmel completed its regular season 18-10 and plays Sectional 8 host Noblesville this afternoon in a first-round game at Don Dunker Field.

Guerin Catholic finally got to complete its Circle City Conference series with Bishop Chatard Tuesday at its home field.

It was worth the wait, as the Golden Eagles beat the Trojans 4-2. Chatard scored a run in the second inning, but Guerin Catholic took over in the fourth inning with three runs.

Nolan Ratcliff batted in the first run, sending Karson Smith home with a base hit. Bryson Dorsey put GC into the lead with a left field single that brought in Ratcliff and Ian Taylor.

Ratcliff got another RBI in the sixth inning when Smith got home on Ratcliff’s groundout. Smith was 3-for-3 at the plate with Ratcliff had two hits. Daulton Phillips got the pitching win.

The Golden Eagles finished conference play 6-4 and their regular season 20-6. Guerin Catholic plays Hamilton Heights Saturday in the first round of Sectional 27 at Brebeuf Jesuit.

Sheridan picked up a home victory to finish the regular season Monday, defeating Southmont 5-4.

The Mounties scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Blackhawks answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Dayne Voege led off with a double, then scored on Cole Mackintosh’s sacrifice fly. Jack Oland singled in Zach Bales to tie the game, then Camden Spencer’s right field double sent Oland home for the go-ahead run.

Spencer batted in a third inning run, scoring Caleb Alexander with a center field hit. Mackintosh’s left field hit in the fifth inning brought Voege home.

Voege, Alexander and Spencer all had two hits. Mackintosh pitched four and two-thirds innings for the win.

Sheridan finished the regular season 14-11 and will host Sectional 43, which begins this afternoon. The Blackhawks play University at 5:30 p.m. in today’s first game.

Hamilton Southeastern won its regular season finale Tuesday, beating Greenfield-Central 5-4 in a walkoff victory at Ken Seitz Field.

The Royals scored a run in the first inning. Alex Billman led off with a double, then scored on an RBI groundout from Parker O’Steen.

The Cougars scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead. Southeastern got a run back in the bottom of the third: Billman hit a leadoff triple, then Kam Seitz hit a sacrifice fly to bring Billman home.

The Royals reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run single from Seitz that scored Evan Haas and Kian Kelly. Greenfield tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning, but Colin Goley batted in the winning run, a center field hit to score Maddux Bach.

Billman finished with two hits. Michael Hoog got the pitching win, with four strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings.

Southeastern completed regular season play 15-13 and plays Fishers Friday night in the second semifinal game of Sectional 8 at Noblesville.
