Baseball: Guerin Catholic shuts out both opponents in PBR Invitational

Guerin Catholic easily won two games last Saturday at the PBR Invitational at Kokomo Championship Park.

The Golden Eagles took care of Plymouth 13-0 in six innings for their first victory. Bryson Dorsey and Ian Taylor both hit two triples: Dorsey smacked a two-run triple in the second inning, then tripled in a run in the sixth inning. Taylor’s first triple led off the third inning; he later scored on Karson Smith’s single. Taylor then connected on an RBI triple in the fourth.

Dorsey finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate. Drew Wilhite, Cuinn Morrow and Nate Gremelspacher all hit one double. Morrow went four innings for the pitching win, allowing just one hit. Gremelspacher relieved him and allowed no hits in two innings.

Guerin Catholic blanked Warsaw 10-0 in another six-inning game for its second win of the day. Davis Wagner, Dorsey and Smith all hit one triple, with Smith going 3-for-4 at the plate. Smith hit a triple to lead off the game, then scored on Dorsey’s RBI groundout. In the third inning, Dorsey hit his triple to score Smith, then Wagner batted in two fourth-inning runs with his triple.

Tate Troxell hit an RBI double in the third inning, with Grant Beard also hitting a double. Ryan Zimmerman threw four innings for the win, striking out four.

The Golden Eagles are 4-1 and play their first Circle City Conference series this week. Guerin Catholic plays Tuesday at Covenant Christian, then hosts the Warriors on Wednesday.
