Longtime Hamilton County resident and seasoned legal professional Amy Summerfield has officially announced her candidacy for Hamilton County Superior Court 3. With over 20 years of legal experience and deep roots in the local community, she brings a balanced and compassionate perspective to the bench.

Summerfield has lived in Hamilton County for more than two decades and has been a practicing attorney for 20 years, serving in a wide range of roles that span both civil and criminal law. Since 2008, she has been actively involved in Hamilton County government, working closely on legal matters and community initiatives.

Summerfield started her Hamilton County career serving as a clerk in Superior Court 3, where she looks to return with this election. She also has 14 years of prosecution experience, 11 of those years in Hamilton County. Currently, she serves at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office as the Department’s Legal Adviser, where she focuses on civil litigation, preventative law, and policy development.  She also assists with key county-level projects aimed at improving public safety, operational efficiency, and community outreach.

“You deserve a judge who will faithfully defend the Constitution and impartially uphold the laws of Indiana and who will foster solutions that ultimately uphold justice and protect our community. Hamilton County is consistently one of the safest places in America,” Summerfield. “However, crime has increased across the country in the last few years. By promoting respect for the law, together we will stand for justice in our community! Our community is growing, and so are its needs. I believe we must evolve to meet those challenges – especially when it comes to addressing mental health in our justice system.”

One of Summerfield’s top priorities, if elected, is the creation of a Mental Health Court in Hamilton County. This specialized court would focus on treatment and support for individuals whose mental health challenges contribute to their involvement in the justice system, helping reduce recidivism and promoting long-term recovery.

“Through my work in the legal system and in county government, I’ve seen firsthand how unmet mental health needs can impact families, law enforcement, and our courts,” Summerfield said. “It’s time we bring solutions forward that offer real help and real hope.”

Summerfield’s candidacy is rooted in her belief that a judge should combine legal expertise, fairness, and a heart for public service – values that have guided her entire career.

“I look forward to continuing to improve the lives of Hamilton County residents through holding criminals accountable for their actions,” she said. “Next year, in the Republican Primary, on May 5, the voters have a choice. Although crime has increased in our area and across the country, you can vote to defend the rule of law and secure Hamilton County for our children and future generations. I am asking for your vote. Together, we will uphold justice and protect our community.”
