Emily Pearson “Auntie Em” kicked off her campaign for Cicero Town Council on Saturday, March 11 with a fundraiser at the library. Many long-time friends and family joined to encourage her and enjoyed appetizers and desserts.
Emily moved to Cicero from Sheridan in 1986 when she married the love of her life, Jim Pearson. They spent many years golf carting around Cicero and taking spontaneous day trips to small communities around the Midwest. Emily dove right into volunteerism in her new town and made her way into several non-profit organizations. Her Texas Sheet Cake is a town favorite. Emily is quick to make up a care package for people when they are sick or recuperating and won’t miss the opportunity to bring her famous chocolate-dipped pretzels for anyone celebrating something. Emily is blessed with a servant’s heart and a strong desire to “feed everyone.”
Emily has been a member of the Cicero Kiwanis as President, Past President, Vice President and Treasurer for more than 15 years. She has chaired the group’s Scholarships and Fundraiser Breakfast committees. She is always quick to say “yes” to supporting the Friends of the Park by donating food and time to support fundraising efforts with such things as the Haunted Trail, Labor Day Car Show, and Fourth of July events. Emily is always one of the first to arrive and the last to leave, taking great care to ensure everyone gets a break and feels appreciated for volunteering.
Many folks have been stopped by Emily in the middle of the road during the Roadblock for Riley events she has helped to coordinate and staff.
Emily has a passion for the growth of the Cicero Library through the Friends of the Hamilton North Public Library. She has chaired the library’s annual Wreath Auction and organized employee events. “Auntie Em” has had many wreath and candy-making classes to keep the old traditions alive for the younger generations. She has served as a Library Board member for many years and as Treasurer for the last four years.
Emily’s heart serves several people who are nursing home-bound by delivering treats and spending time talking with them. She has recently become a Patient Advocate with the Shepherd Center. Emily also helps a gentleman by filling his bird feeder outside his window so that he continues to have a connection with the outside world by watching his feathered friends stop by for a quick bite.
Emily has served her constituents as a Precinct Committeeman for 12 years and has helped many candidates with their campaigns by walking and knocking on doors, hosting and distributing yard signs, standing outside polling locations, assisting with mailings and wearing candidates’ T-shirts to the farmers markets throughout the county. She is a very loyal friend to many. Emily is a past President of the Hamilton County Republican Women’s Club and the current President of the Northern Hamilton County GOP club. She has been awarded the Susan Armstong Heart of the GOP award, Hamilton County Republican Woman of the Year, and the 5th District Woman of the Year.
Emily brings more than 30 years of job experience in the insurance industry and more than five years of Office Management to Cicero. Her experiences with budgeting and management and heart-felt customer service will help maneuver managed growth for the town. She is very interested in promoting Cicero and exploring ideas to keep the small-town feel while attracting additional businesses and a broader tax base to Cicero. She is retired and has the time to be accessible to the community. She maintains a good relationship with the employees of the Town of Cicero and will continue to support their job satisfaction for many years while serving the constituents of Cicero and welcoming new residents to town.
Emily will do her homework to make difficult and responsible decisions. Her priorities are Public Safety, Responsible Growth, and Employee Welfare.
