Rep. Spartz presses U.S. House leaders to support American workers

Spartz

This week, Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) joined Reps Jared Golden (D-Maine), Dan Kildee (D-Mich.), and Mike Turner (R-Ohio) in sending a bipartisan letter to House Leadership to stress the importance of a longer-term reauthorization of the Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC).

The HCTC provides refundable tax credits for Americans who have lost their jobs to outsourcing and whose pensions have been taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) to cover the rising cost of health insurance premiums.

“Bad government policies incentivizing outsourcing caused thousands of Hoosiers to lose their jobs, pensions, and health care coverages,” Rep. Spartz said. “Additionally, government interventions incentivized health care consolidation leading to monopoly problems and higher prices for consumers. Indiana has experienced significant adverse effects of these policies. The Health Coverage Tax Credit provides some offsets to remediate this situation and needs to be established on a longer-term basis to provide more certainty for families.”
