Community members in Hamilton County & surrounding areas can now access no-cost research genetic screening
Parkview Health is expanding access to its DNA Insights research program by offering enrollment through Riverview Health, making it easier for residents to participate in no-cost genetic screening and contribute to groundbreaking health research.
DNA Insights, developed in partnership with Helix, is designed to help participants better understand their genetic health risks while advancing the future of personalized medicine.
“DNA Insights demonstrates the powerful impact that research and innovation can have on community health,” said Dr. Jamie L. Renbarger, Chief of Precision Health and Academic Medicine at Parkview Health. “As we’ve expanded the program across the region, we’ve made participation more convenient and accessible. Offering DNA Insights through Riverview Health gives more individuals the opportunity to better understand their health, take proactive steps to help prevent disease and contribute to research that may benefit future generations.”
As part of the enrollment, participants will complete an online informed consent form to receive a no-cost genetic screening to learn about their inherited risk for certain hereditary cancers, including breast, ovarian and colorectal, as well as a hereditary form of high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia) that increases risk for heart attack and stroke. Participants can also gain insights into their regional ancestry and selected genetic traits, such as caffeine sensitivity and sleep patterns.
Individuals with positive results are offered a no-cost genetic counseling session with a genetic counselor to understand their results and discuss proactive, preventative care planning. Results may also help guide testing for family members who could be affected.
“Healthy communities start with giving people the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their care,” said Dr. Eric Marcotte, Chief Medical Officer and practicing Primary Care Physician at Riverview Health. “By bringing DNA Insights to Hamilton County, we’re expanding access to information that can help individuals better understand their health, identify potential risks earlier and take proactive steps alongside their healthcare team. We’re proud to offer a resource that can benefit not only participants, but families across our community for generations to come.”
