Kurt Wanninger, longtime Westfield leader and resident, has announced his run for Westfield City Council, At Large. The primary election will take place in May 2023.
Wanninger says he is uniquely positioned to run for council because of his experience and leadership in the public and private sectors, his commitment to hard work, and decades of serving the Westfield community.
It is Wanninger’s mission to build trust in local government and be an advocate for the citizens of Westfield. If elected, Wanninger pledges to focus on putting Westfield residents first by restoring confidence, respect, and support among the city council, being transparent and accountable with taxpayers’ dollars, and approaching the city’s imminent growth with intention and strategy.
“Westfield’s success is important to me; I have always put “Westfield First” and will continue to do so as a city council member,” Wanninger said. “I know in my heart that we have the potential to be an even greater, unified city.”
Wanninger has extensive experience in both the private and public sectors. Most notably, he was the Public Works Director with the City of Westfield from 2002 to 2012 and has vast knowledge of the city’s infrastructure. In addition, he has worked with one of the largest water providers in the United States on the executive team, providing leadership in the operations and engineering department. During this time, he has successfully managed multi-million-dollar projects and implemented innovative programs and solutions across multiple states that resulted in increased efficiencies, reduced costs, and cost savings.
Currently, Wanninger is a Senior Project Manager for an engineering firm. He serves on the board of directors for the Open Doors Food Pantry of Washington Township as Vice President. He has volunteered with Open Doors for the last 20 years. He is also a past president and currently serves as the treasurer of the Rotary Club of Westfield. He has actively served on his subdivision residential HOA board since 2000.
Wanninger and his wife, Tami, have two adult children, Samantha and Josh, who are both Westfield Washington Schools graduates. Together, the family has always valued the importance of hard work, volunteering, family time, and traveling.
